The
legend of Mu is found on islands all over the Pacific Ocean. For
thousands of years the Polynesians have handed down the story of a
continent in the Pacific that was motherland of mankind.

concurred and even came up with the name, derived from 'lemur', the
ghostlike primates who supposedly lived there

depths. Fragments remained as Indonesia and the Pacific islands, and a
few survivors reached India, where they became the elite Brahman
caste.
Hopi Legend - On the bottom of the seas lie all the proud cities, the
flying patuwvotas [shields] and the worldly treasures corrupted with
evil. Faced with disaster, some people hid inside the earth while
others escaped by crossing the ocean on reed rafts, using the islands

The same story of escape to dry land appears in the Popol Vuh - the
Mayan story of creation. Augustus Le Plongeon, (1826-1908) a 19th
century researcher and writer who conducted investigations of the Maya
ruins in the Yucatan announced that he had translated ancient Mayan
writings, which allegedly showed that the Maya of Yucatan were older
than the later civilizations of Atlantis and Egypt, and additionally
told the story of an even older continent of Mu, whose survivors
founded the Maya civilization. Later students of the Ancient Maya
writings argue that Le Plongeon's "translations" were based on little
more than his vivid imagination

uninteresting contraction of a more exotic name. In contrast, the
word Lemuria invokes a picture of a land at the dawn of time, a land
forgotten in our histories but not in our dreams
According to the Rosicrucians of San
Jose, California, the disastrous cycle began with volcanic eruptions,
earthquakes, and collapse of subterranean gas belts. Magnetic waves
started moving around the globe, and Lemuria began to go under.
Fortunately, there was time enough for small groups to salvage part of Lemuria's precious wisdom, which was stored in crystals. Some
colonists reached India and from there Mesopotamia and Egypt, while

There are
various dates for the Lemurian timeline - some placing it
millions of years ago - while others define the Lemurian era
as roughly 75,000 to 20,000 B.C. - prior to Atlantis. Others
speculate that Atlantis and Lemuria co-existed for thousands
of years.
The idea of the Lemurian continent first appeared in the
works of Augustus Le Plongeon, (1826-1908) a 19th century
researcher and writer who conducted investigations of the Maya
ruins in the Yucatan. He announced that he had translated
ancient Mayan writings, which allegedly showed that the Maya
of Yucatan were older than the later civilizations of Atlantis
and Egypt, and additionally told the story of an even older
continent of Mu, whose survivors founded the Maya civilization.
Later students of the Ancient Maya writings argue that Le Plongeon's "translations" were based on little more than his
vivid imagination.
The
legend of Mu is found on islands all over the Pacific Ocean.

The name of Mu somehow sounds like an uninteresting
contraction of a more exotic name. In contrast, the word Lemuria invokes a picture of a land at the dawn of time, a
land forgotten in our histories but not in our dreams.
The name Lemuria resulted from a Nineteenth Century
controversy over Darwin's Origin of the Species. Defenders of
Darwin had trouble explaining how certain species became
distributed over large areas. Zoologists had a particularly
difficult time explaining the distribution of the lemurs. The
lemur is a small primitive form of primate found in Africa,
Madagascar, India, and the East Indian archipelago. Some
zoologists suggested a land mass in the Indian Ocean, between
Madagascar and India, millions of years ago. An English
zoologist, Phillip L. Schlater, proposed the name Lemuria (LEMURia)
for this former land of the LEMURS in the Indian Ocean.
Lemuria was an ancient civilization which existed prior to and during
the time of Atlantis. Physically, it is believed that Lemuria existed
largely in the Southern Pacific, between North America and
Asia/Australia. Lemuria is also sometimes referred to as Mu, or the
Motherland (of Mu). At its peak of civilization, the Lemurian people
were both highly evolved and very spiritual. While concrete physical
evidence of this ancient continent may be difficult to find, many
people "know" that they have a strong connection to Lemuria
Currently, I
offer personally escorted tours (Island Aura Tours) to sacred sites
and locally known spots here on the Big Island (and other islands). I
provide these same services for groups/workshops held here, but not
facilitated by locals.
My
obsession with Mu and sacred sites began in 1969 when my Peace Corps
assignment led me to Pohnpei, Micronesia where I first encounted, Nan
Madol. I actually was living less than a mile away. Shocked that I had
never heard about this site, I decided to record the oral histories
from the elders with any proceeds going to maintain the site. The
government sponsored a small brochure (I had to hand-letter it as I
had no access to a typewriter!) which, to my knowledge, is the only
compilation of its oral history to date. Much written about Nan Madol,
except for technical archaeological research, has been taken from my
original research.
After a lifetime of 20 years pursuing my profession in Boulder, my
midlife crisis took me back to Pohnpei in 1988, beginnning a series of
visits culminating in a move back to create the Nan Madol Foundation.
From 1991-93 my Pohnpeian board and I raised significant $$ from US,
Australia, New Zealand and tentatively from the South Pacific
Environmental Program for historical and site preservation. As funding
became more significant, the state government and local traditional
leadership became entangled, once again, in issues regarding control
of the site. The Foundation's position was always, of course, to
encourage cooperation between all factions. As controversy heated, our
non-profit activities had to be put on hold. I moved to the Big
Island in 1993 where I am continuing my addiction to Mu and the
Pacific Grid.
I have tentative plans for a tour to Pohnpei and Nan Madol this fall.

Earnst Heinrich Haeckel (1834-1919), a German
naturalist and champion of Darwin, used Lemuria to explain the absence
of fossil remains of early man: If man originated on a sunken
continent in the Indian Ocean, all the fossils of the missing link are
now under the sea. To quote Haeckel: "Schlater has given this
continent the name of Lemuria, from the semi-apes which were
characteristic of it."
Zoologists have now explained the distribution of
lemurs without resorting to the use of a land bridge. And
anthropologists have discovered many bones of ancient man in Africa. However
in the nineteenth century, Haeckel's theories were widely read and
respected. As a result, the name Lemuria was well known among
educated people in Europe and America.
Madame Elena Petrovna Blavatsky (born Helena Hahn
1831-1891), the founder of Theosophy, in her book The Secret
Doctrine (1888), claimed to have learned of Lemuria in The Book of
Dzyan, which she said was composed in Atlantis and shown to her by the
Mahatmas. However, in her writings she did give Philip Schlater the
honor of inventing the name, Lemuria.
Mme Blasvatsky located her Lemuria in the Indian
Ocean about 150 million years ago. She may have obtained her ideas of
a sunken land in the Indian Ocean from Sanskrit legends of the former
continent of Rutas that sank beneath the sea. But the name Rutas
sounds too spiritless and uninspiring to have held such a prominent
place in cosmic history.
She described the Lemurians as the third root race
to inhabit the earth. They were egg-laying beings with a third eye
that gave them psychic powers and allowed them to function without a
brain. Originally bisexual, their downfall came about after they
discovered sex.
The English Theosophist W. Scott-Elliot, who said
he received his knowledge from the Theosophical Masters by "astral
clairvoyance", writes in The Story of Atlantis & The Lost Lemuria
(1896), that the sexual exploits of the Lemurians so revolted the
spiritual beings, the Lhas, that they refused to follow the cosmic
plan of becoming the first to incarnate into the bodies of the
Lemurians. Scott-Elliot located his Lemuria not only in the Indian
Ocean: He described it as stretching from the east coast of Africa
across the Indian AND the Pacific Oceans.
In this century, writers have increasingly placed
Lemuria in the Pacific Ocean. Even psychics and modern prophets
channel beings who were citizens of Lemuria. Today just about everyone
who has heard of Lemuria assumes that the legends of Mu are identical
with the English zoologist's land of the lemurs.

Esta es una “amplia
área de suelo marino elevado, conteniendo numerosos volcanes en la

En la página 301 del artículo seminal de Keith, el autor comienza
recordándonos que la hipótesis de la placa tectónica incluye el
postulado que,
“el volcanismo puede ser
atribuido al flujo [de la costra y la capa] y reciclaje en las zonas
de reconocida ventilación de Indonesia y del borde pacífico, pero
para elevarse y descomprimirse, derritiéndose en los bordes de
mediados del océano y lugares críticos".
Algunas de las cadenas
de islas del Pacífico, mejor ejemplificadas por la cadena hawaiana,
convencionalmente son atribuidas al recalentamiento de una placa
litosférica al emigrar ésta sobre una zona crítica de

Keith entonces,
